Spoon is the Tick's catchphrase on the animated television series The Tick.

The phrase originated when Tick and Arthur were eating Drama Flakes whilst watching the morning news. From this, they learned that the Terror had returned from "retirement", and was coming to The City. In preparation, Tick declared the need for a battle cry to replace "Not in the face! Not in the face!" Drawing inspiration from his cereal consumption utensil, he uttered a word that would echo throughout the cosmos for eons: spoon! This word, which he would use to strike fear into the Terror's heart when the finally met, would become his slogan in the infomercial of superheroism.

He goes on to use it when saving Arthur and Carmelita from the Swiss Industrial Spies, who'd disrupted their date at the Bistro D'Burden.

Cultural Impact

The phrase is one of the most remembered moments of the series. A video of the scene in which Tick has his epiphany and creates the phrase, simply titled "Spoon!", has over 700,000 views.[1] Though the phrase existed in the comics, it could certainly be argued that it has become a part of the cultural lexicon in due part to the series, considering the generally broader reach of television compared to comic books in the late 20th century.
